I apologize, you new-post hungry followers, for my absence in the blog world the past couple of days. School really picked up, and I found myself absolutely swamped with work. It's the least wonderful time of the year.
Today's mustache: Patrick Scannell
What should you listen to as you get things done today? Beach House. More specifically, their new album, Teen Dream. It will make you wish it were summer time, and if you stand in front of the heater while it's going, maybe you'll be fooled into thinking it is. But, as The Who said, you "...won't get fooled again..." after that, so enjoy it while it lasts. Looks like global warming is here to stay.

Can't Pull The Wool Over; My Eyes Ain't Blizzurred
Today's mustache: Ambrose Everett Burnside
Need I say more?
Team USA defeated Canada in preliminary round hockey tonight, 5-3, at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics (I'm hoping I can come back to this sometime and reminisce.) Great game by all involved, and I've never seen a harder working group of guys. Now, on to the business at hand.
No new picture right now, but if I finish my motion graphics project, I'll have something later. An update to this post will happen.
For now, pleasant evening, everyone (no one.)

Bad Credit App
Listening to Tinchy Stryder right now. Everything the man touches is gold...at least in my opinion. I will admit you have to definitely be into that style of music to like it, but if you are, it's hard to get much better. I'll leave it at that.
Today's featured mustache: Tom Selleck
What is this? I don't know. (Click the link for a higher-res image, if you so desire.)
Have a good Sunday, everyone. Back with a new post tonight.

Check Back Later
I'll start this one with today's mustache: Logan Copley
Right up there with Stossel, Boggs, and Reynolds. Nice work, Logan!
Headed to school right now. Stick around for a big update tonight.

Dog In The Way
I'm eating dinner. It's 11:34 at night. Tuesday-Thursday is like this every week. This Friday will be too. How nice.
Today's mustache: Wade Boggs
Ever watch Modern Family? (You can thank me later.) You may need this too. Or this.
Have a pleasant evening!

Things That Get In The Way Of Schoolwork
Just to type that title with caps on every word was difficult for me. I know it isn't proper grammar; consequently, so did my fingertips.
Today's mustache: Burt Reynolds
And in the spirit of fun, I have to post this too. Jeremy Clarkson saying "I'm Burt Reynolds! I'm the Bandit!"
Anyway, it's time to bang out another motion graphics project. This time, I'm just animating a logo, so it's nothing more than a 3-5 second animation. Who knows how it will turn out.
Time to get cracking.
By the way, it's cold here! Someone bring summer, now!

Hall and Oates
I'm listening to Hall and Oates songs right now. There is no mustache in the world I'd prefer have sing me to sleep. John Oates, I salute you.
On another mustache note, Valentine's Day was yesterday. (No, Bryanne does not have a mustache.) But she did get me an autographed picture of John Stossel! That is the start to my wall of famous mustaches. I am going to start a gallery.
In the spirit of the 'stache, I'm going to post up a good picture of a mustache every day. Hopefully this will keep me consistently blogging, and not writing trash blogs either.
Today's honoree is the man himself: John Stossel

In other news, school is finally fully in gear, and I just finished my first Motion Graphics II project, in which I had to take a "historical" poster and transform it into an animation. I took it a step further, and basically created a commercial, solely using the elements I found in the poster (and maybe a little extra typography, but staying true to the poster, of course). I have to say, as simple as it is, I'm fairly proud of it. It's one of the more professional looking things I've done. It took some time, but I'll either post up a link further down in this, or load the video up, if possible. I'm not sure how that'll shake out, but we'll see. I'm attempting it now:
Well, I couldn't get the video to upload, so I'll link you to here. My Vimeo site.
Let me know what you think...all one reader of this blog. Thanks, Rebecca.
That's it for tonight. The blog train has left the station! Onward to tomorrow.

Site Overhaul
I'd say it's about time my website got a nice little overhaul...but I want to redo everything either in Flash or HTML5 (I'm thinking of you, iPhone, iPod Touch, and now [Max]iPad users). I'm hoping I can come up with enough time to create a clever intro, site design, etc to do it up all properly, mostly because I want it to look professional, while at the same time being functional and having a nice sense of style and fun. Also, it probably means that I have to turn over hosting to a third-party, which means shelling out a little more money per month for them to keep my files on a server. I'm not necessarily opposed to this, as I'll have to soon enough anyway, but I'd like to get a good, solid gameplan in order before I go out and do any of this. Maybe I'll hit the drawing board this weekend.
I'm departing for Alabama tomorrow night after I get out of class.
Speaking of class, this semester is going to be brutal. I'll go ahead and say that. These eighteen credit hours I'm taking are going to kill me. Literally, they will make my head fall off.
Glad to see I'm three for three (or four) on posting here in the last few days.

Random Bits
I'm currently sitting in my bedroom watching Top Gear. It's quite loud, though it isn't the show I'll blame for that...it's my neighbors. I know Rebecca can attest to that. Absolutely ridiculous.
In other news, I have, and have had for about two-and-a-half months now, a new girlfriend. Her name is Bryanne. She is awesome. That's all I have to say about that.
My final semester of undergraduate study starts tomorrow, though I only have class Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday every week. Eighteen credit hours away.
Here we go...

The Brian Horne Gallery of Semi-Sensible Photoshop Works
Here is a gallery of work I've done for Motion Graphics I. I'm still learning some fairly basic techniques, but no matter how simple these are, I am actually enjoying the results. They may not make the most sense to look at, but I know what they mean. Under each one I'll tell what I was trying to illustrate.
These first seven are for the Sound Synesthesia assignment. When you hear a sound, what do you think of?
The sound of a collision.
These first seven are for the Sound Synesthesia assignment. When you hear a sound, what do you think of?
The sound of a collision.I was attached to this one in a way, only due to firsthand experience. The 299792458 numbers represent light speed, or 29,972,458 meters per second. I had my first big crash this year, and let me tell you, time seems to stand still when it happens. Coincidentally, time would appear to stand still upon reaching light speed as well, because you'd be traveling as fast or faster than anything you see. The heart and EKG readouts are in there for obvious reasons. The dinosaurs are there because that's sort of what I think it sounds like: a bunch of angry dinosaurs. The compass represents being disoriented, and the broken dreams sort of sums up how you feel afterwards. It's just an overwhelming feeling that sets in, and you feel like you lost out on a lot of stuff.

The sound of a flirtatious wink.
This one goes out to all of my bro's and sis's at Auburn University. When I think of a wink, the only place my mind takes me is to a frat party. I wish it would take me anywhere but there, but that's not the case. So in thinking of that, I see and hear the sound of a cash register cha-chinging as a bro gets a wink from some girl he has never met before, only because she is drunk off of her butt. Obviously alcohol is involved, hence the beer bottles. The dollar signs further illustrate the cha-ching, and frat boys are often rich kids. The visor is fairly obvious as well, being a go-to choice of headgear for all parties involved. Last but not least, the bro fist bump is in the background, as our successful frat boy is going to "score" tonight. There are just some things I don't miss about Auburn.
The sound of a coffee stain made by the base of a mug on white linens.
This is the hardest one to explain, because it was the last one I did, and I was a bit delirious while making it. The lion represents the person or person's spouse who left or found the stain on said linens. The girl represents the actual coffee stain, seemingly laughing back in the face of the person who made the mess. The wadded napkins are a literal take on the frenzy to try to clean the stain up, but being crumpled, they could also represent throwing money away in staining the fresh linens. Coffee drinkers often read the news while taking in their beverage, and a brown layer has been added over it to convey the sense of color I get when I think of it all.
The sound of a thrash metal band's acoustic set.
I never got into thrash metal, but I can only imagine the empty sound you would have when doing an acoustic set. In the left, there is a hollow tree, illustrating that sound. The cat and sunflower combo is representative of the fact that I can't take an acoustic set seriously if it's a band like that, and would only think of funny and happy things. I chose the baby in the background because I feel that the singer's voice would most closely resemble a crying baby, or it would be so bad that children around the world would begin to weep. Now for the fun reference in all of this. That red layer on top of it all is Fonzie, from Happy Days. For all of you unfamiliar with the show's demise and the phrase "jumping the shark," producers got worried that their show was losing viewers, and in an attempt to reel them back in, they had Fonzie jump a shark while on water skis. This didn't really help ratings, and shortly after, the show was canceled. After the event, the show never quite seemed right again, thus I include Fonzie on water skis, ready to jump the shark. A thrash metal band playing acoustic music would seem wrong, empty, and just wholly missing something, hence the reference. Fun.
The sound of cop pulling over a traffic speeder.
For this one, I chose to present it solely from the speeder's point of view. The blue figures in the foreground are none other than Eric Estrada, of CHIPS fame. I wanted to have it all balanced out, because when you get pulled over, you feel like, up until the last second, you are going to have it all sorted out and get off with a warning. But then WHAM! The cop hits you with a ticket, and that balance and harmony is gone. I duplicated everything in the frame for balance reasons except the shattered glass. The cowboy and his lasso are the police officer, seemingly roping in the speeder, who thought he would get away. The bacon is also illustrative of the cop, and Charlie Brown makes his way into this one for two reasons: the sound of the police officer talking sounds like the teacher speaking in many of the Peanuts cartoons, as well as the phrase "Good grief" being the minimum most people would utter upon being pulled over. The shattered glass represents not only the speeder literally being busted, but his dreams of getting off easy being shattered.
The sound of a headache.

The sound of a headache.I feel like the only explanation that needs to happen for this one is why I didn't choose Paris Hilton saying "That's hot" instead. The reason I chose what I did is because when I think of the last thing I want to hear from anyone in the entire world, it is her walking up to me and my friends and saying "Oh, hey you guys." Terrible. The squeezing is there to show the squeezing feeling you get when you have a headache. Also, in the very back, there is a bit of texture there. That's a bass drum head, because you get a pounding sensation along with your headaches, most likely. Paris Hilton...ugh.
The sound of lemonade.
The sound of lemonade.Industrious children of the world, unite. This one is all about refreshment. The outside border is the lemonade stand. The yellow, of course is for the lemons. The hammer and nails represent not only the hard work put into the stand's construction, but the customer base a stand usually gets. Busy do-it-yourselfers, carpenters, and construction workers line up around the block on a hot summer day to buy lemonade from the little girl saving up to buy a pony. The jar in the middle is the tip jar, but it is made out of refresh icons from an Internet browser, hinting at the refreshment on hand when drinking lemonade. The overlay on top of the frame is sweat drops, also representing all the hard work from both the buying and selling parties.
And that concludes the gallery for my Sound Synesthesia project. Be sure to look out for more things, if I decide to post them up. Maybe I'll come back tomorrow with some weekly Visual Journal entries? Who knows. Until then, enjoy.

Long TIme, No Post
So I haven't posted on here for a while, which means I'm about to bombard this thing with pictures. First off, a tour of my apartment (albeit a month late). (Puts on best tour guide voice)
Ahem, We'll start today's tour upstairs, in my bedroom. If you look on your left, you'll notice my closet. It's quite deep, but also quite narrow. I added three rows of shelves to make more space for the lack of room I had for a dresser. On the right is my command center. It houses my iMac, my laptop, and my television. The television is hooked up to my Xbox 360 and Playstation 2. The lapto is hooked to the monitor on the left, and the iMac is ready to share the screen on the left, in the event that I find myself doing video or Photoshop work. That happens a lot, actually. If you turn all the way around, you have the rest of my room.
Now I know it is quite small, but it gets the job done. My room has just enough space for my command center, my bed, and my piano. Consequently, someone stole my power supply and sustain pedal, so I haven't tickled the ivories in ages. Unfortunate. I painted the shelves blue and red, which makes no sense, but it's okay. I like it the way it is. And there you have it, that's my room. Now if you make your way out the door, you'll find yourself in the hallway.
Right now you are looking down the hallway towards Matt's room and Campbell Street. If you turn around, you'll have this lovely view.

This is the view down the hall the other way. Shane's room is at the end, and just to the left of his room is my bathroom. Let's journey there. Are we having a nice time?
This is my bathroom. It's pretty standard, and has a shower, a sink, and a toilet, which is off to your left. Maria Sharapova spends her days on the wall in my bathroom as well. That's it for the upstairs part of the tour. I'm sorry we can't tour Matt and Shane's room today, but for the sake of privacy, I'll say that their rooms are larger. I got a bathroom to myself out of the deal, which I would not trade for a bigger bedroom. And now we'll turn around and hike down Mount Everest, our staircase.
Ready? Let's go.
This is our living room, also known as "base camp." It houses our DLP TV, another Xbox 360, satellite, a Nintendo 64, and a full 5.1 surround sound setup. All computers in the house can also connect to the receiver to play music through the surround sound. There is ample room to hang out at base camp, with two couches, a recliner, a cushy reading chair, and a papasan. The experience at base camp is second-to-none. Now, moving on, we'll walk to the back of base camp and gaze upon the entire bottom floor.
From this view, you can see Mount Everest on your right. To the left of that is the hallway, leading to the kitchen. Inside the hallway is a closet which houses our bikes, a bathroom, and a separate area for men only.
This is the "man closet," which houses all of our non-bike related tools, bits and pieces of hardware, and anything else fitness and man related. On the right, you'll notice a punching bag, installed by my roommate Shane. This is where any aggression is taken out. There is a lot of punching that happens in this house. Now let's turn around and head towards the end of our tour, the kitchen.
On the left is our pantry. With enough space to hold even the biggest of people's food, it easily accommodates anything out heart could desire. Talk of having a cow in the house is underway. Naturally, as shortest person in the house, I get the bottom shelf. Shane gets the middle, while the Ginger Giant, Matt, gets dibs on the top shelf. Let's turn right.
This is the back of the kitchen, and also the back of the apartment. It houses a dishwasher that is constantly full, a mini-fridge, and an oven/range. Just recently installed were the bars which hold pots and pans, a lifesaver when you have three of everything. Turning right one more time, we have our last view of the apartment.
This is the home of Harley, the Southern Dog Pup from the South. She sometimes sleeps in here, and takes her meals from those two lovely blue bowls. I considered having bowls made of gold, but the metal's considerably low melting point prohibited that, due to Harley's hot puppy breath. There is a back door just to the right, which is where you can make your exit if you have no further questions.
And I'm back. In other news, we're now three weeks into the semester, and I've found myself swamped with work nearly every day. I have enough time to do it, and it's been fun, but it's tough to learn Photoshop on the fly. I'm getting the hang of it, but my stuff still isn't that great. Next post will be the Brian Horne Gallery of Semi-Sensible Photoshop Works. Also, I landed a job at Best Buy, which means all three housemates will be working at the same location. Fun. I have class in an hour and a half, so I'm going to do a few things to prepare myself for a three hour marathon of experimental films. Wish me luck. Back later tonight with the gallery.
This is the view down the hall the other way. Shane's room is at the end, and just to the left of his room is my bathroom. Let's journey there. Are we having a nice time?
Behold, Mount Everest. Only the strong survive the journey up and back. It has taken six lives so far, and many who attempt to make the trip return to base camp in need of hot chocolate. Mount Everest is also patrolled by the best Southern Dog Pup from the South, Harley.
Thank you and have a wonderful day!

Watching Cosmos
I like to think I'm fairly intelligent, but the more I watch Cosmos: The Complete Collection, the more I realize how little I know, and how tiny and insignificant I am in this giant universe. Watch it, seriously. It's incredible.
Big update to come tomorrow. Goodnight, for now.

Got Ordered to Stop Wearing a Shirt
I was awoken this morning with a call by a fellow named Brian, the indoor soccer director at the Montgomery YMCA. My team, Dances with Wolves, is quite controversial as it stands, with myself getting red carded and the like. The first words out of Brian's mouth were "I've got to talk to you about your team."
I knew it couldn't be good.
Well, long story short, our jerseys, which have a "sponsor" logo on the back are to no longer be worn. Our "sponsor," Rolex, has deemed it fit to issue us a cease and desist order. On top of that, we can't just stop wearing the shirt...we have to destroy any and all existing shirts, players and fans. I have a gut feeling this letter isn't real, and I can't find any contact information to get ahold of Rolex's legal team. I'll get a copy of the letter tomorrow night when we take on Chocolate Babies, a game which will determine the sole possessor of first place. Perhaps it was the guy who I tried to go after last game. Hm.

Behold, the shirt design heard 'round the world.
Should be interesting. We've got some ideas on how to tackle this issue. I figured it would never become an issue, as it's not really defamation in any way, and it's basically free advertisement.

Dog Got Soaked Twice
So for anyone reading that doesn't know (and who reads this anyway), I have a very hyper, very playful, very medium sized little girl dog named Harley. She really is a great dog, but she loves to play and be outside. With that in mind, I try to let her have as much fun as she'd like out there.
Well, I let her out yesterday afternoon, the sun shining brightly in the sky, and after about thirty minutes I glanced over at the window. What do I see? Rain dripping from my roof. Thoroughly disgusted, I went out to retrieve my soggy puppy (she could have used the rain jacket I just bought), brought her in, and gave her a bath.
Bath time with a bigger dog is...well...interesting. Seeing as I hadn't had a shower yet at that time (don't hold that against me), I climbed in, swimsuit on, and proceeded to turn the shower on. It was a sad sight to behold. Harley laid at the bottom of the shower with the saddest look a dog can have while I washed her off.
Long story short, I ended the day with a clean dog.
Well I woke up about thirty minutes ago, let Harley out, and drifted back into my room to sleep for a few more minutes. What was I greeted with upon going to bring her in? A rain soaked dog.
Hooray.
In other news, Lauren and I spent a pleasant evening dining with my cousin Wesley and his wife Rebecca (never typed that before), and it was quite delicious. I'm sure pictures of the meal will end up floating around the Internet somewhere. Also, we are making the perilous journey to Chicago today. Time to move in to my new place. Pictures of it to come later this weekend.
My name is Brian, and yes, I "have a blog."

Got a Rain Jacket
I'll start with all the sporting news I have. Though I was suspended, my soccer team, Dances with Wolves managed to pull out a win against the only team that has ever beaten us. We won 7-4, and now face a showdown next Wednesday with the only other undefeated team. Ladies and gentlemen, this one is for all the marbles (sort of).
Also, the other soccer team I play on pulled out a win on Tuesday night, 2-1. I don't want to toot my own horn, but I did score both goals for our team. That's all I'll say about that, because I couldn't have scored without the rest of the team actually putting in a good effort (finally). I think having one sub actually made us play smarter for once. Thank goodness.
So I bought a very expensive rain jacket last night. I would, under most circumstances, never, ever buy a rain jacket that costs $80 (on sale), but such is the case that I find myself oft stranded in downtown Chicago during torrential downpours, along with a good rain jacket's abilty to stay waterproof and flex its muscle as an outer shell, I caved and bought one. I'm pretty pumped, though it's the exact same rain jacket I owned two years ago, except a reddish color.

1. This lovely number is a peacoat-style jacket that has a hood attached to it. I really think it looks pretty cool, and when I wear a peacoat, I usually put a hood on underneath anyway, so that's essentially a moot point.

3. The last one is called the McLovin jacket. Hm. No pockets aside from the standard two on the front. I'm a bit worried that the collar won't fold down, because I just can't wear it like the picture to the left. I just can't. If it does, however, it makes a compelling argument to be bought.

Why do I need another jacket if I already had one? Someone decided i was a great idea to steal my precious jacket (which I bought at full price the first time) from my tailgate site at an Auburn game two seasons ago. Hope you are enjoying the jacket as much as I did.
I got the jacket at Moosejaw (a great site for any outdoors type stuff), and they run a rewards program that gives you one hundred points for every $10 that you spend. I've amassed over 2,500 points, which means I can get some free stuff now. I face a dilemma. It is one for the ages, mind you, and not something that should be taken lightly. If I choose the wrong jacket, the result could be something akin to what some people thought would happen when they fired up the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland.
Of these three jackets, which should I get? Or should I get one at all? All three are the same hoody-like material, so it's not a matter of comfort. Here are the nominees:
1. This lovely number is a peacoat-style jacket that has a hood attached to it. I really think it looks pretty cool, and when I wear a peacoat, I usually put a hood on underneath anyway, so that's essentially a moot point. Color: Navy Blue
Price: 2,499 points

2. Jacket number two is similar to the first one, sans hood. It's got four pockets on the front (obviously), which I feel adds a bit of manliness to the jacket, even if it is only a glorified sweatshirt. I like this one too. Oh, decisions.
Color: Black
Price: 2,499 points
3. The last one is called the McLovin jacket. Hm. No pockets aside from the standard two on the front. I'm a bit worried that the collar won't fold down, because I just can't wear it like the picture to the left. I just can't. If it does, however, it makes a compelling argument to be bought. Color: Navy Blue
Price: 1,999 points
And that's the jacket roundup. Which one to buy?

Got Red Carded
So tonight was the first true test for the other soccer team I play for, Dances with Wolves (the team I failed to mention in the previous post...the good team), and lo-and-behold if I don't get red carded at the end of the first half.
I'll go on record and say this:
Yes. I should have been red carded.
Jumping over the wall to attempt to fight your opponent isn't usually the best course of action at an adult league soccer game, but when said opponent continues to curse at you and make inflammatory remarks, you have to do what you have to do. I was very close to walking away, but the last turn I made when I looked into his eyes just tipped me over the edge. Fortunately, no one punched anyone, and both teams continued playing the second half. Dances with Wolves prevailed 5-1, and I am suspended for the next game of the season.
Fun fact of the night:
We have a rematch with this team on the last day of the season. Broken legs anyone?
Got Poison Ivy
Rebecca, you've inspired me. All this tweeting and such (follow me at www.twitter.com/brianhorne8) has got me thinking I want to type a bit more. So here I am.
Important things to say? No. Interesting things to say? Probably not. Will anyone read it anyway? I doubt it.
Playing soccer a lot more now. Co-ed soccer is the most frustrating thing you can possibly do in your entire life. Seriously. It's like I cut one of my legs off and have to run around the field with the hope that I get a lucky bounce or something and the ball goes into the goal. It's like getting in a manual car and driving in first gear the entire time. It's like someone put peanut butter all over the field and people just can't move...at all. Try it. You'll probably end up sashaying down the field, then look over and see your mom in the stands watching and for once won't be embarassed, because you'll feel so bad that she's wasting a lovely evening by watching some middle-aged adults and her son play the most anemic brand of soccer known to man. It's that bad. Don't do it.
I'm also playing some tennis with middle/late-aged men on Monday nights. I guess when you get out of your teens and into your early/mid-twenties (man, that's weird to say), you are relegated to playing sports with people much older than you. I've been on a steady sporting decline since I turned nineteen...
I also got doggone poison ivy (thanks Mom!) by doing yardwork. Apparently our azalea bushes are infested with the stuff, and my arm is showing it. About four nights ago I got no sleep due to incessant itching.
I guess after writing all of this, the main conclusion I can come to is this:
If you are twenty-two years or older, just stay inside your house. There is nothing out there for you.

She was Nice, but...
I woke up this morning with the anticipation of cooking American flag pancakes and sitting down to watch college football. I ordered ESPN Gameplan yesterday (they did not pay me for the promo right here; everyone loves free advertising) with the confidence of my wonderful cable employee who, for the life of me I cannot remember her name, assured me that I would receive all the football I could handle today, and for the remainder of the season. With all of this in mind, and in a cheerful mood, I awoke, made my pancakes (although I opted for a decidedly un-American take on them this morning), and sat down on my couch, prepared to enjoy Auburn football. This was not to be.
Long story short...I ended up on the phone/online for over an hour, and thus missed nearly the entire first half of my beloved Auburn Tigers' game against Southern Mississippi.
Gotta love Comcast.
*The lady at Comcast was nice though. I enjoyed her brief company yesterday.
